While exploring the newest Android Canary build (ZP11.251212.007), we found that Google has included the necessary system files for Quick Share, enabling file transfers from Android devices to iPhones specifically for the Pixel 9 series, though the Pixel 9a is currently excluded. Notably, these system files were absent in prior firmware versions for older Pixel models.
As for broader compatibility, it seems that other older Pixels, including the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, also lack these essential files at this time. Although we haven’t examined every model exhaustively, it strongly indicates that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series likely do not have the needed foundation for this feature either. This absence does not mean they will never receive it; rather, it suggests that Google has yet to implement the necessary groundwork for those devices.
Google has indicated in the past that it plans to roll out support for more Pixel devices gradually. However, specific timelines for these updates remain unclear.
At this point, we haven’t had an opportunity to verify whether Quick Share works effectively between a Pixel 9 and an iPhone. Yet, the inclusion of these system components in the latest Canary build is a promising indication that Google is committed to expanding AirDrop-style sharing capabilities beyond just the Pixel 10.
It’s also uncertain when the Quick Share functionality for the Pixel 9 will be accessible to all users on a stable software version. This feature might debut with Android 16 QPR3 or could be included in the upcoming Android 17. For now, one thing is clear: development is actively progressing.
