A final trailer for Project Hail Mary? Absolutely!
While many Americans are likely occupied with the excitement of the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics today, those who aren’t particularly interested in sports have something intriguing to look forward to. Amazon MGM Studios has just unveiled a new trailer for its highly anticipated space adventure, Project Hail Mary. This film is based on the bestselling novel released in 2021 by Andy Weir, the author renowned for his work on The Martian. The story revolves around an amnesiac biologist who finds himself transformed into a schoolteacher floating in space.
As we’ve previously discussed, Amazon MGM Studios secured the rights to Weir’s novel even before it hit the shelves and enlisted Drew Goddard to craft the screenplay. Goddard is a fitting choice, as he also penned the adapted script for The Martian, showcasing his talent for translating complex narratives into compelling screenplays. The studio has entrusted the direction of this project to the talented duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for their work on beloved films like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The LEGO Movie. Additionally, Hollywood star Ryan Gosling has been cast in the lead role.
The official synopsis provides an enticing glimpse into the plot: Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling, wakes up aboard a spaceship, light-years away from Earth, with no memory of his past or how he arrived there. As fragments of his memory begin to piece together, he discovers that he has an urgent mission ahead of him: to unravel the mystery behind a strange substance that threatens to extinguish the sun. Utilizing his scientific expertise and unconventional thought processes, Ryland faces the daunting task of saving life on Earth from impending doom. However, an unexpected bond with another being may mean that he won't have to confront this challenge alone.
In addition to Gosling, the film features an impressive cast including Sandra Huller in the role of the head of the Hail Mary project and Ryland’s superior; Milana Vayntrub as astronaut Olesya Ilyukhina; Ken Leung as astronaut Yao Li-Jie; Liz Kingsman portraying Shapiro; Orion Lee as Xi; and James Ortiz as a new life form that Ryland affectionately names Rocky.
